Find Your Voice at
The Music Center’s VoiceFest
Special Guests Dr. Gerald Blanchard and Diana Spradling
You’re invited to our very first VoiceFest. The theme for the
event is “Find Your Voice” and that’s exactly what will be happening on Saturday, November 8th, from 1pm to 5pm, through a celebration of vocal music with workshops, clinics, and performances with CMS faculty and special guests Dr. Gerald Blanchard, director of choral activities at Kellogg Community College (KCC) and Diana Spradling, vocal instructor and leader to award-winning groups and singers throughout the U.S. and abroad.
If you ‘re interested in singing, join in the fun and learning this day has to offer. Sessions being held include: Musical Theater I and II, I Wanna Be A Rich and Famous Musician!, Take a Lesson, Off the Top of Your Head: Harmonizing and Improvisation, Blending In, Jazz Masterclass, Classical/Sacred Masterclass, and Beat Boxing.
Special guest Dr. Blanchard has performed worldwide and earned first place in the Opera Memphis at the University of Memphis National Singer’s Search. His voice has been described by critics as… “dynamic and virtuosic…rich and expressive.” He has made appearances with numerous opera companies and music festivals throughout North America and has concertized throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, including appearances with the Battle Creek Symphony. Most recently he was a featured performer at the Kirchentag Festival in Bremen, Germany. Dr. Blanchard is an adjudicator for the Michigan School Vocal Music Association, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He received his DMA from Michigan State University’s College of Music.
Special guest Diana Spradling has devoted the last four decades to vocal solo and ensemble music education. Singers she has trained have sung with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and as lead in musicals on Broadway. Most recently, her students have been backup singers for Queen Latifah, Cheryl Crowe, Liza Minnelli, and French Rock ‘n Roll sensation Johnny Halliday. She is the author of a groundbreaking pedagogy textbook, “Jazz Singing: Developing Artistry and Authenticity.” Ms. Spradling maintains an active adjudication, workshop, coaching, and master class schedule throughout the U.S. and in Canada, and is a long time choral adjudicator for Festival Disney. In 2009 an endowed vocal jazz scholarship was established in her name at Western Michigan University honoring her work.
