BRANCH COUNTY COMMUNITY CHORUS ACCEPTING NEW MEMBERS

August 20, 2014 · by kelloggcommunitycollege · in Community, News Releases
Kellogg Community College’s Branch County Community Chorus is accepting members for the 2014-15 performance season.
No auditions are required to join the BCCC, but members must register for the Community Chorus course MUSI 104 (for credit) or MUSI C104 (non-credit) prior to the group’s first rehearsal at an open house reception at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 27 E. Chicago St., Coldwater.
Rehearsals will be held at St. Mark’s from 6:30 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday through May.
Those who wish to join the BCCC will have a brief vocal placement assessment and interview with Dr. Gerald Blanchard, vocal music director at KCC, prior to the start of the rehearsal. Members must have a basic ability to match pitches and read musical notation.
For the upcoming season, Blanchard said all vocal parts are needed, but especially tenors and basses.
“If you are passionate about singing and want to join a group that embodies joy of spirit and a love for the vocal arts, then the Branch County Community Chorus is for you,” Blanchard said.
The choir’s 2014-15 concert season will include performances of Handel’s “Messiah,” Menotti’s Christmas opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” Haydn’s “Lord Nelson Mass” and Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance.”

So Many Great Musical Opportunities in One Place!

MUSIC @ KCC!

The music curriculum at Kellogg Community College is designed to create a strong foundation for students planning on transferring to a four-year program or to improve as a performer. Study of particular styles of music over time offers students the opportunity to improve listening skills, appreciate teamwork and to impact emotional states. Study of music provides students with vocal and instrumental performance experience as well as appreciation for social and historical musical experiences that connect generations and cultures.

At Kellogg Community College, our music programming is built on the cornerstone of creativity and collaboration. Our students are encouraged to find their best musical selves through artistic exploration. It is here where you will develop the skills necessary to become a successful and well rounded musician. While a student at Kellogg Community College, the course offerings are vast, including courses in Music Theory, Aural Comprehension, Piano Class, Voice Class, Conducting, Music History, Music Fundamentals, Music Appreciation, Music Education courses, Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles and Individualized Music Lessons ( available on all major orchestral instruments, piano and voice) with our artist faculty.

You are encouraged to explore this site for more detail, however, if you have additional questions please contact the music coordinator, Dr. Gerald Blanchard at blanchardg@kellogg.edu or call 269-965-3931 ext. 2566.
