The Power of Music

ImageFollowing our Messiah performance last evening, one of my choir members shared with me a special moment she had with a concert attendee. The story went as follows:

Concert attendee: I was at the Branch County Community Chorus’s performance on Tuesday evening (Dec. 4) at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility with my mother who is a resident. We so enjoyed that performance, thus I decided to bring my mother to this presentation of Messiah, here at Saint Mark’s.

Choir member: That is so wonder,  thank you for coming.

Concert Attendee: I really appreciated the Carol sing prior to the start of the concert, as you see…my mother suffers from dementia and she  has forgotten who we are, but yet…she remembered those songs and Sang! Thank you for giving her that moment.

My Personal Reflection:

Although I was not there to personally witness this exchange, when my choir member shared it with me, my heart got full. I am so THANKFUL I do something that can help make this world a better place in some small, but yet meaningful way. I try so hard to remind my singers that every moment we share our talents with the world, we have the potential of making a difference in the life of someone-else. Know that we are given gifts to share with this world and we must take that charge seriously. Thank you, Anastasia Miller for sharing this story and reminding me (and all who reads this story) of the true meaning of Christmas. This was a gift!
